ACTIVITIES

SWIMMING POOL

The pool at Le RIGAL is 11m by 5.5m. It is a secure pool with 2 alarms and a child-resistant fence surrounding the paved area, veranda and terrace. The brand new pool conforms to all the latest safety and filtration standards. There is an entrance via roman steps to the shallow end and the deep end is 2m with an access ladder.
The pool is a salt water pool thus avoiding chemicals that damage the skin and environment. There is a terrace around the pool and a veranda with shade if you just want to relax - for those of you who would like an evening dip, the pool is lit.
For security reasons, the pool is closed overnight.

BICYCLES

We have bicycles (and child seats) available to borrow or if you bring your own even better! Maps are provided and the whole area is criss-crossed with tracks, quiet lanes, and forest paths so even on the hottest of days you can find a shady route to cycle. The land is gently undulating so suitable for young and old alike. There are many circular routes starting right from the front door, or alternative cycle routes such as the one alongside the Lalinde canal or more challenging ones for the serious cyclist.

WALKING

There are many walks in the area starting straight from the front door ranging from a gentle stroll to the church, an hours walk around the estate, or longer well-marked walks through the surrounding forest or on country lanes. The terrain is gentle making the walks suitable for all ages. Local maps are provided.

At dawn and dusk, deer can be seen regularly as can red squirrels and hedgehogs. Butterflies, lizards, buzzards, herons and many other birds can be spotted throughout the day and wild boar have been sighted although they are very shy.

Because many animals already share the estate, we kindly remind you that we do not accept pets with guests, unless they are a working animal, such as a guide dog or hearing dog. (By prior arrangement)

ANIMALS

At the moment there are cattle grazing the pastures and usually there are one or two calves to be spotted.

There is a small pets corner with rabbits and guinea pigs that children may handle under the supervision of an adult.

We keep chickens, and guinea fowl, free ranging but in an enclosed space due to current regulations. Free range eggs may be for sale subject to availability.

Two cats and a border collie sheepdog also live at Le Rigal.

HORSE RIDING

There are several equestrian and pony club centres in the vicinity catering for all abilities and ages from as little as 2 years old. Parents can hire a pony for half an hour and can lead their child and pony through shady woodland or you can arrange hacks, lessons or even 2 or 3 day adventures if you so wish

CANOEING

This is one of the many pleasures of taking a holiday close to 2 major rivers, the Dordogne and the Verzere. You can hire a canoe for as little as one hour or if you’re feeling fit, a complete day trip, stopping off for lunch or an ice-cream at one of the riverside cafes.
